  • Catena Zapata Adrianna Riverstones Malbec 2013 750ml This cuvee takes its name from a small parcel of the Adrianna Vineyard that is completely covered with oval white stones and was the site of an ancient riverbed. The abundant stones provide optimal drainage and extreme temperatures. They absorb heat and moderate the nights, but also function like ice cubes after a very cold night. Stony soil Malbecs tend to be extremely aromatic, rich and luxurious, just like the River Stones Malbec from Adrianna. This wine can be enjoyed young or aged for decades. Can be purchased here

  • Catena Zapata Nicasia Malbec 2013 750ml Winemaker Notes Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec is a dark violet Malbec. Ripe black-and-red currant, raspberries and an elegant touch of french oak are some of the aromas that we can appreciate from this special malbec from one of the Catena´s highest family vineyards. Very complex and expressive palate, with a creamy violet flavor witih ripe blueberries, cassis, vanilla and spicecake. Pairs well with roasted veal, shiitake mushrooms, and beef tenderloin. The 2013 Malbec Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard is produced with grapes from the vineyard that names it--a vineyard planted in 1997 in the Altamira zone of Valle de Uco. It's mostly Malbec with some 4% Cabernet Franc, but the two grapes fermented together. It has less Cabernet Franc than other years because 2013 was fresh enough that just that pinch provided enough of the character they are looking for. They call this "the most Malbec of our Malbecs" and it has the textbook aromas of violets and red berries with perfectly integrated oak. The palate is also elegant and fresh and showcases the telltale round tannins of Malbec. This is truly outstanding.

James Suckling "The 2011 Langhe Nebbiolo Conteisa is an irresistible wine with enormous depth, beauty and penetration. It sweeps over the palate in opulent waves with dark fruit, spice, leather and grilled herbs. It also shows a distinct balsam personality with cola and dried violets that give the wine a beautiful sense of aromatic lift and buoyancy. Langhe Conteisa is made with Nebbiolo (and a tiny part Barbera) from the Cerequio vineyard in La Morra. The 2011 vintage is slightly broader than past vintages, but this wine promises a long drinking evolution regardless"
  • Gaja Darmagi 2012 750ml The child of a ripe vintage, the ’12 Darmagi explodes from the glass in a profusion of brambly, juicy red and blue fruit that’s layered atop sun-warmed earth, cigar wrapper, baking spices and mocha. Opulent yet supple, this wine balances its chewy tannins with fresh acidity as it builds to a long, caressing finish. An elegant blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this wine belies its name Darmagi, which means "what a pity" in the Piemontese dialect. Concentrated on the nose and palate, with expansive and complex layers, this beautiful wine marries the distinct terroir of Piemonte with the engaging personalities of its international contributors.

The bouquet opens with cassis and 'canned corn' aromas, building complexity as it warmed in the glass, to reveal five-spice and vegetal, herbal and black fruit aromas, with tinges of dried herbs, leather and tar. It's rich and fleshy on the tongue, with fine-grained tannins and gentle, mellow flavours that are not particuarly fruity, but very very distinctive of Hill of Grace. Soft, fluffy tannins and great length; a sensational wine and a very good Hill of Grace.
  • Hentley Farm Beauty Shiraz 2015 750ml "Grown on the coolest block on the property and co-fermented with a touch of Viognier, the Beauty displays complex lifted aromatics, along with the softness and subtlety befitting a wine of this name. Primary reds fruits, white florals and tropical stone fruits leap out of the glass. Red and blue fruits also lead the palate with a strong spice element providing the complexity, a unique blend of blueberry and green peppercorn evidence of the cooler creek level breezes. Soft subtle tannin provide focus through the middle before opening up to broad savoury finish. Elegant and complex."

  • Penfolds Grange 2013
    PALATE DESCRIPTION
Colour Opaque black core, dark red rim. Nose An aromatic assault / surge / eruption of soy, hoisin, balsamic reduction… coiled around a core of kirsch and fresh raspberry. This propulsion is crammed with tell-tale barrel ferment, V.A. and formic Grange markers – all in balance, all respectful of fruit and oak. And yet, so ‘classy’ – a brightness, a sheen, a gloss, a raciness – belying both age and upbringing (élevage). Palate Formidable No gaps, a densely-packed structural continuum. Not huge, not massive, yet taut, muscular, feisty. A black palimpsest - black fruits, black liquorice,  black pudding, black fig, black cardamom.... Granitic chewy tannins linger and coat; oak all but fully concealed, submerged beneath a tannin/oak/acid/flavour tsunami.
    WINEMAKER QUOTES
“Six decades after the release of OUR favourite Grange, the 60 year-old 1953 Grange, this 2013 flexes, prances, twitches… Pressure is on! What’s the measure of this four and a half year old?” “2013 – Undoubtedly will soon be universally proclaimed to be a classic ‘Penfolds vintage’ … and indeed over time certified a classic ‘Grange vintage’!” “Not unlike the 2008 Grange – á la style / weight / disposition / cellarability.” - Peter Gago, Penfolds Chief Winemaker
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2004 750ml Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2004 Penfolds Grange offers a profound nose of black cherries, creme de cassis licorice and dark chocolate with suggestions of cedar and violets. Full bodied, ripe and voluptuous in the mouth, the generous flesh is well supported by medium to high acidity and a firm level of finely grained tannins, finishing long. It's seductively approachable now but has much more to give and should drink best 2015 to 2035+.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2005 1500ml "Containing just a dollop of 4.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 Grange is about 85%+ Barossa fruit with the remaining proportions coming from McLaren vale and Coonawarra. It was aged for 18 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads. The nose begins a bit animal with some smoked game, mincemeat and bacon notes emerging over the freshly crushed, sun-warmed blackberries, black currant cordial, earth, black truffles, anise and allspice. Rich and full with very firm very fine tannins and very crisp acid, it gives a long finish layered with coffee, mincemeat and toast." Lisa Perotti-Brown MW
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2005 750ml Deep red purple, good colour for age. Sweet blackberry and blueberry aromas; oak not too dominant, seems almost fruit driven for a Grange. Chocolate, vanilla, cooked fruits, some coconut emerged with airing. Palate is balanced and not all that tannic, smooth and remarkably approachable. Youthful in mouth; remarkably fresh and charming fruit flavours; ideal ripeness. Tannins are finer and more powdery than expected, and subtly run the length of the palate. Good long aftertaste. An elegant, finer, more subtle vintage of Grange.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2006 1500ml "This precision engineering through the finish marks its intense quality. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, nutmeg and smoky vanilla. It's quite delicious, and yet there's no question that it's powerfully wrought. It's not a particularly heralded vintage, in general terms, but the way this release presents in the glass is, to me, what Grange is all about. Impeccable winemaking, pure fruit, clasps of uncompromising tannin, smokin' barrels, and thrust."
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2006 750ml Deep red, slight purple. Rich and viscous in the glass. Roasted nuts, toasty barrels, soft and mellow aromas; palate very intense, elegant, relatively (for young Grange) soft and rounded, smooth and easygoing. Lots of impact and density. Quite fine and elegant, roasted meats and licorice/aniseed flavours, some plummy/pruney aspects. Very elegant and long, smooth and well modulated. Needs many years before the full pay-off. A top-level Grange.
