• Yalumba Octavius Shiraz 2012 750ml "Full depth purple red in colour, it opens with aromas of fresh, ripe raspberry and blueberry, then powdery exotic spices, violets, wildflowers and black cherries. It has a plump and harmonious palate - a brooding, dense, dark mouthful of delicious Barossa Shiraz. A supple beauty that isn’t about aggressive power. The flavour is tremendously long, with a rush of energy that will carry this wine for many years. Try with lamb shoulder and all the trimmings."

  • Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz 2004 750ml "The 2004 Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz is a deep purple in color with lifted, spicy, fragrant aromas and notes of ripe berries and dark chocolate. The concentrated palate boasts layered flavors of blackberry, freshly ground coffee, spice and integrated oak. This is a seamless, velvety wine, rich and intense with excellent palate length and fine long tannins."
  • Wolf Blass Black Label Cab/Sauv/Shiraz 2005 750ml "Artfully smooth, polished and integrated, this sumptuous, deeply layered red has a dark, briary bouquet of v very ripe dark plums, blackberries and a hint of raisin tightly knit with new smoky, cigarboxy oak. Full to medium in weight, it's rather closed and withdrawn, holding back its substantial weight of pure dark fruit beneath some seasoned, smoked oyster-like oak. Framed by a firm but very pliant extract, its lingering core of palate-staining flavour finishes with meaty, savoury elements and a hint of minerally saltiness."

Alive with charm, texture and energy, this is a multi-generational wine of immense cellaring potential.

  • Rockford Basket Press Shiraz 2011 750ml
  • Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2011 750ml "Deep crimson. Fragrant red cherry, redcurrant aromas with sweet fruit, dark chocolate notes. An elegant style with fresh red currant, red cherry flavours, fine sinewy, al-dente textures and underlying sweet fruit, tobacco, chinotto notes. Finishes chalky dry, minerally and long. Very much an alter ego St Henri vintage, yet still displaying the hallmarks of the Penfolds house style. Keep it for a while and it will build more generosity and fruit complexity."
  • Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2007 750ml "Deep red-purple. Earthy, meaty, savoury, developed and tertiary aromas, faintly herbal; a hint of pepper. Soft, mellow and complex in mouth, savoury, with grainy, sapid tannins. Gentle and mild, not very long but good balance and drinkability. Traces of licorice, anise and chocolate too." • Penfolds St Henri Shiraz 2006 750ml "The color is a deep dark red. On the nose, the wine shows fragrant scents of praline and dark chocolate immediately conveyed, followed by blackberry, powdered violet & lavender (talc). Beneath, fresh green tobacco and lively spices, cold meats / pan juices fuse together. The result: a youthful, benchmark St Henri aromatic package. The entry on the mouth shows a medium-bodied and relatively 'elegant' feel. A palate stand-off / divide - Kirsch and dark fruits versus pomegranate / cranberry & dessicated Chinese plums. Cold meat flavours - corned beef or poached silverside? Powdery savoury tannins... Polished. Serve with pork, cauliflower cream, confit turnip, morcilla, fennel seed and spiced quince puree."
  • Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2015 750ml A threatened crimson rim encroached upon by a deep, dark core. Freshly sliced panforte – date, fig, with dried and fresh blue fruits that become more apparent upon sitting. Immediately recognisable cedary French oak - synergised by the liberation of sweet Moroccan spices and a propulsion of dried roasted almond. Conceded – can’t ‘smell’ acidity, so maybe such a perception is created via scents of rhubarb and cranberry? This year more ostensibly textural than other red wines in The Penfolds Collection. Yet still supersaturated with red and blue-berried fruits and liquorices (both red and black). Proudly extolling a formidable Barossa structure – layered/laminated, rather than thick/blocky … (aka filo-pastry or) ‘filo-lated’?! Tannins – fine/emery/sleek/polished – all there to convey, not to confront. Lingers, ever so pleasantly. Once again spoilt by the generosity on the palate of what the Barossa does best
  • Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2014 750ml "Very deep, bright purple/red colour. Fresh and clean, less-oaky than Magill Estate this year. The palate is wonderfully fleshy, rich and supple, laden with ripe tannins, the texture is seductive and the palate is seamless and long and marvellously fine. Discreet notes of chocolate, mocha, coffee, spices and earth as well as red fruits, but it's all so well harmonised: nothing stands out" Huon Hooke
  • Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2008 750ml "Glorious, deep crimson-purple, with an alluring bouquet of black fruits, spice and cedary oak contributed by 14 months' maturation in 83% new French hogsheads. The medium- to full-bodied palate has layer-upon-layer of velvety blackberry fruit allied with notes of dark chocolate and a sprinkle of licorice and spice, silky tannins and quality oak completing the package." James Halliday

  • Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2007 750ml "Medium-full red-purple. Cherry and subtle mint, spicy and quite complex, red fruits, correct ripeness; has real charm and character. Very stylish, nuanced, complex, charming and delicious. This is shiraz of an entirely higher order than most of its brethren. Beautiful wine." Huon Hooke
  • Penfolds Magill Estate Shiraz 2011 750ml True to this cool season, a pretty and elegant Magill Estate of lively acidity, tangy berry fruits and savoury accents. It soaks up 100% new oak effortlessly (65/35% French/American), making space for flavours of licorice, black olives, pepper and exotic spice. No great Magill, but certainly an engaging and commendable result.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2014 750ml Nose An indulged aromatic meander: • First in the kitchen – umami expressed primarily via wafts of shiitake mushroom stock, hoisin and XO sauce … enhancing scents of dry-aged beef and game meats. • Then outside – olive-leaf, cardamom, sage and thyme … “a stroll through a South Australian olive grove” … saltbush, acacia, dried and dusty bracken. • To the cellar – fresh and familial lifted formic and barrel-ferment nuances. Followed by a return to reality: • Quite simply, an unmistakable youthful ‘Grange’ nose. Awakened primary fruits and stylish oak interlocked and indistinguishable. As expected. Palate Savoury, not fruity. Tastes/flavours remind of slow cooked beef ragout, chicken liver game terrine. Red liquorice also apparent. Integrated oak – spicy, almost ‘non-American’ oak … but it is. As it always is. A core of 100% new Quercus alba. Poised yet powerful. A balanced, tightly-knit and woven structural ‘tapestry’. Not to be constrained by dimension or frame. Tannins with attitude! Nonetheless respectful. Type? Slatey tannins … alluvial, silty (certainly not muddy!). Long and lingering – tactile impressions indistinguishably and slowly fuse/merge into an aftertaste memory. Until the next sip! A Grange to create new friends – this 2014 offering a subtly different structural mosaic; different tone and timbre.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2012 750ml Deep colour. Intense paneforte, dark chocolate, dark blackberry aromas with lifted roasted chestnut, mocha, English-toffee aromas and notes of sweet tobacco, dried roses, shellac and frankincense. Superbly concentrated wine with wonderful presence, structure and density. Plush in scale yet possessing lovely energy and structure...Dense, expansive, rich and voluminous. All in perfect symmetry. A transcendent and powerfully expressive Grange harking back to Max Schubert s original blueprint. Its aromatic complexity, generosity and suppleness is reminiscent of the early 1960s. This has to be in the pantheon of all-time great vintages. Unbelievably good to drink now; a great indication of its lasting quality. Leave it for a minimum of ten years, if you can. 2026-2080.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2011 750ml Deep, rich red colour with purple tints. The bouquet starts off very oaky, and with a lot of swirling becomes richly mocha-like, peppery and dark chocolaty. Lindt dark chocolate with raspberries, to be precise. The wine is dense and fleshy in the mouth, with plenty of extract. It seems a shade lighter in body than usual, but still powerful. It's nicely balanced and smoothly-textured. The richness, density and harmony are very good indeed. Not a great Grange but superb, and surprisingly so for the disastrously wet year. And it can be enjoyed already. (Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale & Magill. No cabernet this year; it's 100% shiraz)
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2010 750ml Deep crimson. Intense liquorice, dark plum, blackberry, praline aromas with beautifully balanced malty, mocha, spicy oak notes. The palate is richly textured, dense and powerful with generous deep-set sweet blackberry, dark plum, mulberry, inky, dark chocolate flavours, rich mocha espresso notes, fine dense graphite textures, superb mid-palate richness and underlying roasted chestnut notes. Graphite firm at the finish yet long, plush and sinuous with sustained sweet fruit flavours and new oak complexity. Elemental, powerful and wonderfully concentrated 2010 Penfolds Grange has all the substance and balance to last another 60 years or more. This is the 21st Century s reference for Grange. The millennium vintage that arrived ten years too late. Keep it for a while, or leave it for the next generation. 60th vintage. 17 months in oak hogsheads 96% Shiraz 4% Cabernet.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2009 750ml Very deep red with a good purple rim; the bouquet loaded with chocolate, mocha and cocoa-powder aromas, and a hint of raisin. The wine is full-bodied and grippy, the tannins less well-tamed than in the 2010 or '08 Granges, and the wine is all-round slightly rustic and less cultured. It certainly has depth and weight and concentration, but is slightly uneven across the palate. A good Grange, merely. (2% cabernet sauvignon)
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2009 1500ml Deep crimson to purple. Very fragrant elderberry, dark cherry, liquorice aromas with underlying ginger, mocha, malty nuances. Lovely concentrated palate with deep-set dark cherry, elderberry flavours, fine dense leafy tannins and ginger, malty oak. Finishes bittersweet with massive tannins and plume of extract. Impressive, solid wine with extraordinary density, robustness and lasting power
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2008 750ml Deep purple-black in color, the 2008 Grange puts forward a very complex nose packed with aromas of mulberries, layers of baking spices, cloves and cinnamon with nuances of minced meat, anise, potpourri and whiffs of dried mint and chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, taut and very spicy in the mouth, it shows touches of sandalwood and Chinese five spice complementing the layers of dark fruit flavors. It is framed by firm, grainy tannins and a refreshing acid line before finishing very long with aniseed and lingering blackberry preserves notes. This is clearly a wonderfully opulent and a magic vintage for this label.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2008 1500ml An utterly majestic Shiraz, sleek and seamless, brimming with ripeness on a framework that allows for grace and expressiveness in equal measure. The intensity of fresh blueberry and plum fruit holds attention until the nuances kick in, offering glints of exotic spice, coffee, cocoa, bay leaf and mint. Shows tremendous presence without a lot of weight, the tannins noticeable but not even close to getting in the way. A great wine now, with plenty of room to grow. Drink now through 2040
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2007 750ml Deep purple crimson colour. Fresh liquorice, cola, blackberry, mocha, herb garden aromas and malty new oak. Deep set blackberry, sweet fruit, mocha, herb flavours, fine slinky dry - slightly grippy tannins, malty, toasty oak. Finishes chocolaty al-dente firm. Quite brambly. Very elemental and muscular with underlying sweet fruit. Will last at least 25 years!

  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2006 750ml Deep red, slight purple. Rich and viscous in the glass. Roasted nuts, toasty barrels, soft and mellow aromas; palate very intense, elegant, relatively (for young Grange) soft and rounded, smooth and easygoing. Lots of impact and density. Quite fine and elegant, roasted meats and licorice/aniseed flavours, some plummy/pruney aspects. Very elegant and long, smooth and well modulated. Needs many years before the full pay-off. A top-level Grange.
  • Penfolds Grange Shiraz 2006 1500ml "This precision engineering through the finish marks its intense quality. It tastes of blackberry and aniseed, nutmeg and smoky vanilla. It's quite delicious, and yet there's no question that it's powerfully wrought. It's not a particularly heralded vintage, in general terms, but the way this release presents in the glass is, to me, what Grange is all about. Impeccable winemaking, pure fruit, clasps of uncompromising tannin, smokin' barrels, and thrust."
